Born in the United Arab Emirates, Abaya by Sanhan is the result of over a decade of immersion in the region particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi where refined craftsmanship, cultural depth, and understated elegance left a lasting impression.
The name “Sanhan” is a fusion of Sandrine and Hannah, symbolizing elegance, strength, and creativity. Founded in June 2025 by Congolese-Canadian designer Sanhan Kankolongo, Abaya by Sanhan hailed as the “Queen of Abayas” crafts embellished and cape abayas that blend timeless sophistication with Middle Eastern-inspired luxury.
Since its celebrated luxury launch in Dubai on November 7, 2025, Abaya by Sanhan has established itself as a brand synonymous with refined craftsmanship and elegance.

How It All Began

Sanhan’s journey is deeply rooted in her personal experiences and cross-cultural inspirations. Her story began in 2014, during frequent trips to Dubai to visit her older sister, a nurse based in Abu Dhabi. Captivated by the city’s breathtaking architecture and the effortless elegance of abaya fashion, Sanhan soon adopted the abaya as part of her own daily wardrobe back home in Canada.
A pivotal moment came in March 2025, when her sister discovered a refined abaya design at the Kuwait Pavilion in Dubai’s Global Village. When Sanhan wore it to church, she was showered with compliments, that simple gesture that sparked a powerful realization. That day, she decided to turn her admiration for abayas into her life’s work. With courage and creativity, Abaya by Sanhan was born.
